Journey to Georgia
27th July - 10th August 2024
Sufi journey with Ingo Taleb Rashid
Barely discovered by the average traveler, Georgia is a country with a very strong national character, visible in many aspects, from having their own Christian branch to a unique architectural style, a very elaborate cuisine considered the best in the former Soviet Union.
According to Orthodox tradition, Christianity was first preached in Georgia by the Apostles Simon and Andrew in the 1st century. It became the state religion of Kartli (Iberia) in 319. Over the centuries Georgia had Greek, Roman, Arab, Persian, Turkish and Soviet influences. During this journey we are looking forward to finding these traces and rich cultural heritage of Georgia.
It is a modern caravan of experience and learning. Therefore we don’t have a fixed sightseeing program. An essential part of the trip will be regular Movement Concept® trainings.
A onetime Silk Road capital, this sprawling city of 1.1 million is as eclectic as it is dynamic.
Mtskheta was the capital of the early Georgian Kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD. The chronicles mention that the Kingdom of Iberia and its capital were conquered by Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC, but certain historians do not accept this. Eventually, the ruler appointed by Alexander ruined the walls of Mtskheta and left only four fortresses, one of them known today as Armazi.
Batumi is located on the site of the ancient Greek colony in Colchis called "Bathus" or "Bathys", derived from (Greek: βαθύς λιμεν, bathus limen; or βαθύς λιμήν, bathys limēn; lit. the 'deep harbour'). Under Hadrian (c. 117–138 AD), it was converted into a fortified Roman port and later deserted for the fortress of Petra founded in the time of Justinian I (c. 527–565).
As one of the world's oldest Christian traditions, the Georgian Orthodox Church has been instrumental in shaping the nation's spiritual, artistic, and social development.
